About the Victoria Humane Society

The Victoria Humane Society is a small community group committed to doing big things – finding homes for animals in need. Since the Society formed in 2013, more than 4,000 animals have been saved. It has been a herculean effort led by the animal advocate Penny Stone along with a committed group of volunteers, operating without government funding or support and even without a facility.

The VHS difference was most succinctly stated by a veterinarian who faced two dire situations in her clinic in less than 24 hours. One dog who died while giving birth, leaving 11 puppies and humans were not able to take on their care and another dog who would have died in childbirth without the medical intervention that her humans could not or perhaps would not provide. Both emergencies took place late at night.

Dr. Christin stated, “I just wanted to thank you for always picking up your phone (even in the wee hours!). I cannot express how grateful and appreciative I am of your dedication and willingness to take on some of the toughest cases.”
